VISION: Breaking New Ground Yet Again With A Stellar Sold-Out Performance

19 July, 2015

Singapore – VISION, Gateway Entertainment’s (GE) iconic illusion-theatre extravaganza, once again took Singapore by storm during its return at the Esplanade Theatre this past week. Fresh from its successful sell-out run in China, the highly anticipated mega production drew in thousands of eager magic and theatre fans alike – all eager to be mesmerised by Singapore’s award winning father and daughter illusionists Lawrence and Priscilla Khong.

The largest illusion-theatre show in Asia, this new rendition of VISION broke new ground by achieving an unprecedented 95.6% ticket sales – breaking its previous record of 92.5% when it first debuted in 2011. By the end of the show’s 10-day run from 3-12 July, over 10,900 tickets were sold – with few seats left by its finale on Sunday.

As with all of GE’s productions, VISION was well received and was lauded for its top notch production standards. The show even received praise from overseas visitors, who placed VISION on par with some of theatre’s most iconic and finest productions. From its precise world-class choreography to its stunning stagecraft and illusions, VISION proved to be not just the epitome of Lawrence and Priscilla’s career, but heralds a new milestone for GE as it sets its sights on being a major player in Singapore’s Arts & Entertainment landscape.

Swedish illusionist Joe Labero, who was in attendance, said after the show that he “was mesmerised and I love the story. It builds up nicely and provides great entertainment. Totally brilliant. I’m amazed and I think VISION is beautiful!”

This new rendition of VISION took two years in the making where cutting-edge sets, backdrops and a sharper storyline took this phenomenal production from its previously ethereal version to something different: a faster, grittier and, above all, a more emphatic visual spectacle.

“Being the highest form of artistic expression of our craft, this new rendition of VISION pays tribute to our nation and the significance of its historic milestone”, said Lawrence. “We wanted to celebrate with the rest of Singapore as one nation on her Golden Jubilee, and also showcase to the world what Singapore’s talents are capable of and an exceptional production that Singaporeans can be proud of.”

Besides the illusionist duo, this spectacular production is also the genesis of the brightest creative talents in the industry, both internationally and locally: from the Emmy Award winning Don Wayne, principal magic creator for David Copperfield and Paul Kieve, Drama Desk Award recipient for Ghost The Musical, to Kenn C, Singapore’s own Music Director for the World Concert Tours for Stephanie Sun 2014.

The world-class performance also featured top international dancers from China, South America and the United States, with new additions from Vietnam, Spain and Hong Kong.
